Test Series League Rankings

This is a very simple system. It works similarly to a typical football/soccer league season. In a regular Premier League season, for example, every team plays every other team home and away and whoever has the most points at the end is the champion. In this system I have simply taken the most recent home and away series against each team giving two points for a series win and one point for a series draw.
In an ideal world each team would play each other home and away in a six or so year period so results could turn over regularly and an 'end of season' champion could be crowned. Unfortunately, international cricket does not work out that way. Half of Zimbabwe's series, for example, took place over ten years ago.
I like this overall, however, as a way of giving context to Test series'. As an example, the current Australia v South Africa series would determine the number one Test team, with South Africa defending two points and Australia hoping to gain two points. The winner of the India v England series would stay/move ahead of the other on the table. New Zealand could overtake their opponents, Pakistan, with a home series win as Pakistan are the defending champions in that series.
These rankings do not take into account the length of the series. Some of the "series" listed below were in fact only one Test long and include series which were adversely affected by rain, for example the Bangladesh v South Africa series from last year.
Lastly, only one series has never taken place and that is India v Bangladesh. That "series" will take place early in 2017, however, in a one Test format.
